I honestly don't think it's that great, but this is a little prayer I never have quite finished until now. In fact, now that's it's finished (I think), I can sing it to myself (and God of course!), which makes it so much more of an offering to God, rather than just a few words spoken hither and thither.

Father,

May I never show disdain

Toward the honor of Your Name

Jesus,

Help me to remain

In awe of You who came

Spirit,

Assist me to proclaim

The glory of Your reign

I think there is very little that pleases our Father in heaven more than that of our own song written and sang for Him—as skillfully and poetically as possible!

Here we have been made with an audible voice, and it’s seems all too often we use that voice for tearing one another down. (And there is no one innocent in this regard) Furthermore, we all too often compare our voice to others around us and we begin to let that fear of man creep into our lives so much so that we fail to sing even in private—just one on one with God. I mean, let’s face it. Some people just have amazing voices. And others… well, yeah. We’re in the same boat.

All in all, I’m not trying to tell you not to compare yourself to others. That’s all legit. But one issue that I personally think is not stressed quite enough is the fact that GOD does not compare you to others. (Hallelujah!) After all, man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart!

So when you sing a song, don’t just mumble it off as if it were some “sing-along song with Salty.” Let God see a child’s heart that longs to bring joy to their Father by singing their own song, with all their might, using every ounce of “umph,” choosing only the finest of melodies, the most meaningful words, and the most precise doctrine!

Sure, that’s a high standard to achieve. But hey, I haven’t heard anyone say Chris Tomlin’s songs have always been great! :-)
